NearScrub

About NearScrub

What it is

NearScrub is a free, browser-based metadata-removal tool: it strips hidden EXIF/GPS data from JPEG photos, text/metadata chunks from PNGs, the Info dictionary and XMP from PDFs, and author/company/custom properties from Office documents (docx, xlsx, pptx, and more). Every operation runs entirely on your own device via Web Workers — your files are never uploaded to a server.

No account, no storage

There is no account, no sign-up, and no file storage. The site is static; a strict Content-Security-Policy technically blocks it from sending your file data anywhere.

A family of tools

NearScrub is the metadata-cleanup companion to NearSeal (encryption). Both are privacy- and security-focused tools built on the same principle: your files stay near you.
